Bell in a Vacuum Jar

Another classic demonstration.
Students can easily see the vibrating striker of our large electric bell through the clear polycarbonate vacuum jar. The electrical connections are conveniently made to two binding posts attached to the jar’s rubber stopper. The bell hangs from springs so that its vibrations aren’t transferred to the jar, ensuring it is truly silent when the jar is evacuated. The bell jar is 24cm high and 17cm in diameter. Set also includes a 21cm diameter vacuum plate with quick-connect hose nipple and complete instructions. Requires 6mm inside diameter vacuum tubing, a vacuum pump, and a 6VAC power source.

Slinky-like springs

The “Slinky” is an edge-wound coil spring about 3? in dia. Fifteen centimeters long when collapsed, it easily extends to 10m when stretched. It can be used horizontally either on a smooth surface like the floor or suspended approximately every foot by cord.

Great for wave labs and demonstrations.

Standing wave demonstrator

When you blow over the mouth of a bottle or pluck the string of a guitar, you create a standing wave. That wave will always produce the same sound or pattern. Here’s an easy way to show how it works. This Standing Wave Demonstrator uses your power drill. Simply attach the demonstrator crank to any power drill, anchor the free end of the 4.5m string to a stationary object, and turn the drill on. By adjusting the tension on the demonstrator you can produce successive harmonics and nodes. Change the tension, the speed and the distance-then have your students predict the results.

Ultra Violet Light Detection Kit

Being safe in the sun has never been such fun!
Encourage UV protection and be prepared when spending time outdoors with the ultimate UV detection kit. Kit contains one 200 pack of our popular and colorful UV beads and a pocket sized UV meter. This meter not only gives the UV index and UV Irradiance but also has a graphical meter along side a UV color code chart which makes it easy, and fun, to determine the level of UV risk.
UV Beads change to a rainbow of colors when exposed to UV rays. Experiment with them in different UV conditions or make jewelry out of them which will always be a reminder of your exposure to harmful UV rays. Encourage inquiry by comparing the depth and speed of color change of the beads to the reading of the meter.
Small enough to easily bring along each day yet a powerful way to detect
potentially unsafe conditions. Your kids will be excited to find out how extreme
their UV risk is each day!
The UV meter is broadband and is not able to detect the narrower frequencies of UV light emitted from artificial sources such as a UV flashlight or UV lamp.
