Capacitor - parallel plate design
I think this is a great design that can be introduced in electrostatics and be carried all the way through to circuits.
Small groups can work together setting up and charging this low-cost capacitor. We took two metal plates, 10cm square, and bent back the bottoms to provide for stand-up support and binding posts. You attach grounding wires or electroscope connections to the plates. Easy-to-use instructions walk your students through the process.
